Ah, what a week it's been! One that the Craddock's have been looking forward to for some time. Kyle and I live in a very unusual circumstance in which we both work for school districts, and therefore have the benefit of enjoying extended periods of vacation together. (Check back soon to see what we will be up to during our 12 weeks off this summer...we are thrilled about where the Lord has put us!). This week off has included some of my favorite activities (besides lots of sleeping, of course).
As previously posted, our time off began with Hillary and Matt's wedding last weekend. While we were in town, we stayed with Kyle's parents and spent some quality time with them post-wedding maddness. We ate at a wonderful restaurant called Benjys - truly the best food I have had in a while in an outstanding atmosphere.
If you are ever in the downtown Houston area, it is a must-try!
Tuesday night, Kyle took me on my favorite kind of date to one of my favorite places: Barnes and Noble.
We browsed the shelves, selected books to read, ordered Starbucks coffee from the cafe, and enjoyed each other's company. Kyle selected a book called Brain Rules about principles in the workplace, home, and school. Apparently it's a very informative book with lots of good information and a little humor thrown in for good measure. Kyle loves it. I'll have to read it when he's done. I choose The Pleasures of God by John Piper. Not exactly a feel-good bedtime story, but a great read nonetheless. More later on why I love Piper's books. I also spotted a couple of coffee table books I would love to have for the apt, mostly involving traditional decorating of interior spaces. Maybe soon. :-)
I love to read. Abosolutely love. And there's just something about being among millions of books with the man I love, drinking coffee that is just good for my soul. What a wonderful way to spend an hour or two.
Now, vacation isn't vacation without a little shopping (at least for Christie Craddock). And so thanks to a birthday gift card from my dear sister Hayley and her husband Brian and some coupons, I collected a small addition to my wardrobe from my favorite store:
And my favorite tidbit about this vacation: these two crazy cats left Thursday for a relaxing vacation in Cancun during Spring Break.

We're not sure they are going to get the relaxing, carefree time they are planning on, but we should be hearing some awesome stories when they get back. We told them we would be watching for them on the latest episodes of Girls Gone Wild (kidding). Seriously, we just hope they come back in one piece.
Other notable events of the past week:
Spending an afternoon following a tow truck around the greater part of Dallas after Kyle's truck broke down.
Watching the Varsity boys at BA win their first playoff game against The Colony 2-0.
Eating Jake's hamburgers with my Dad in his office and watching his most recent commericials (oddly coupled with really embarrassing home movies).
Watching an obscene amount of movies (favorites? Taken, Seabuscuit, and the newly-released Twilight).
Making our favorite cookies (really, they're delightful) and eating them for breakfast the next morning.
Who says you need exotic beaches or tours of Europe to have a wonderful vacation?
And so ends a week of freedom. But we are rested and happy...and ready to finish the rest of the school year strong!
Thanks for reading.

it's so great to be able to find joy in the simple or even seemingly mundane things! (you are, and will be such a blessing to your husband and family through that!!)
sounds like a wonderful break.
