"He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together."
- Colossians 1:17
Ah, these summer days are so sweet! When we returned home from vacation I was determined to get this baby on a schedule! So, that has been our project for the last few weeks and we are all loving having a little more predictability to our days. Baby is now eating every 4 hours, 4 times a day, and once at night. He is spending 12 hours a night in his crib (though he typically still wakes up several times throughout). Knowing exactly when the next feeding needs to be enables us to get out of the house much more, which has been wonderful. He is growing and changing by the day, and is starting to show little bits of his personality. He loves the car and is up for anywhere we want to take him. We're heading out to the lake for a long weekend to enjoy some time with family.
One of the most enjoyable parts of this summer is having some time to read in bed after our little one goes to sleep for the night - something I haven't quite had time for in recent months. I've noticed that my books of choice tend to fall into a couple different categories. At times I love loosing myself in a good story, and really any kind of story. Sometimes the more unusual, the more I enjoy it. At other times I really crave books that teach me, deepen my faith, and challenge my thought patterns. In this particular season I'm indulging in the latter. I've had some great recommendations lately and am learning and processing. Perhaps more on those things later.
I'm trying to be purposeful in these days. Strange as it seems I'm already coming to the realization that my little baby won't be so little for much longer! So, I'm doing my best to love this little one well, give him much of my time, and cherish these days. Currently, I'm sitting on the floor watching this little guy play contently next to me in his "ocean adventure" activity gym. I love how he reaches for and examines each of his toys - I can nearly see the wheels turn in his little developing mind - taking in colors, shapes, sounds. I just reached over and he grabbed my finger in his fist and held on tightly while looking up at me so intently. So sweet.
And of course, everything inevitably goes into the mouth. Fingers, toys, burp cloths. Doesn't matter. :-)
